Artist and Entrepreneur DoccRico Launches Private Art Dealer Venture with Special Exhibition Honoring Julio Mariño

Updated: Jul 11

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

In a milestone moment, Juan Torrico (DoccRico) officially launches his private art dealer practice by representing longtime friend and Uruguayan gallerist Julio Mariño, with a special pop-up exhibition in Warrenton, Virginia.

Warrenton, VA — May 16, 2025 — Artist and entrepreneur DoccRico proudly announces the official launch of his private art dealer business — a venture nearly two decades in the making — by representing a longtime friend, fellow artist, and respected gallerist, Julio Mariño.

DoccRico and Julio first met in 2007 during an exhibition curated by Julio in partnership with the Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and Pepco Edison Place Gallery in Washington, DC. That meeting sparked a creative friendship rooted in a shared love of art, conversation, and community. Over the years, the two have exchanged critiques, wine, cheese, and ideas, cultivating a relationship built on mutual respect and creative growth.

Julio first invited DoccRico into his home to view his collection and asked if he’d consider representing his work. At the time, DoccRico didn’t view himself as an art dealer, but Julio did. “He planted a seed I couldn’t fully understand back then,” DoccRico says, “but one I’ve grown into with deep respect for his vision and trust.”

Julio Mariño, originally from Uruguay, immigrated to the United States in the 1990s after a successful career as the founder and owner of Galería de Arte Contemporánea — one of the most influential fine art galleries in the Southern Cone. The gallery represented major Latin American artists, including Carlos Páez Vilaró, to whom Julio gave his first solo show. At 93 years old, Julio remains an active contributor to the art world, currently curating for the Uruguayan Embassy’s Cultural Foundation for the Arts and providing ongoing services in art restoration, conservation, and collection management.

To mark the launch of his private dealer practice, DoccRico will host a special pop-up art exhibition this Saturday, May 17, from 1 to 5 p.m. at 136B Fairfield Dr., Warrenton, Virginia. The exhibit will feature 12 rare works from Julio’s Ranchito series, part of his private collection, as well as a selection of DoccRico’s own mixed-media pieces and limited-edition prints.

“This exhibition is more than a farewell to Washington, DC,” says DoccRico. “It’s a celebration of the friendships, the creative growth, and the stories formed during my time here. It’s also the beginning of an exciting new chapter as I launch this next phase in my art career.”
